In 2003 the Council of Europe started works on defining common technological initiatives with grouping the most important public and private institutions responsible for technological development (especially in the areas where Europe has chance to become a worldwide leader) which also reinforce activities related to the European Development Initiative. Together with representatives of industry, scientific and financial institutions, government and local government, social organizations and decision-making bodies European Technology Platforms.
Their most important objectives:
- work out common, innovative and long-term vision of development of definite technologies, which will be supported by execution of research programs and implementation of results,
- activate of critical mass of research and technological resources (in national and European dimension as well as in private and public),
- develop Strategic Research Agenda
The task of the Technological Platforms is to define Joint EU Technology Initiatives, which will be key instrument in EU 7th Framework Programe.
In Poland companies have initiated the process of creating Polish Technology Platforms in particular economic sectors.
