IVth ESWM International Conference entitled "An integrated approach to the structure, performance and application of wood"
From 14 to 17 May 2006 IVth European Society for Wood Mechanics (ESWM) International Conference entitled "An integrated approach to the structure, performance and application of wood" was held in Florence (Italy). It was organized in cooperation with COST Action E35 "Fracture mechanics and micromechanics of wood and wood composites with regard to wood machining"
Main issues discussed at the conference were the following:
structure, ultrastructure and changeability of wood,
microstructure and micromechanics,
performance of wood in time,
splitting and surface characteristics,
During a poster session 2 posters co-authored by the Wood Technology Institute employee Grzegorz Kowaluk, PhD (Eng) were presented:
Evaluation of Visual Method for Laminated Particleboard Edge Quality Determining.
Quality of milling of laminated particleboards with correlated to cutting parameters
One of the conference sessions was held in the Galleria Accademia Museum - Tribunetta del David, at the very feet of the sculpture of David by Michael Angelo. The subject of the session was research on the problems of cracking of the "Mona Lisa" painting, conservation of wooden musical instruments and degradation of wood from the antique Swedish ship "Vasa"
