New doctor in Łukasiewicz - ITD
On March 16th, 2021, based on successful defense of the doctoral dissertation entitled "Development of terrestrial ecotoxicity effect factors of selected metals for application in life cycle impact assessment", the Discipline Council for Chemical Sciences adopted a resolution to award Mateusz Sydow, MSc (Eng), from the Wood Preservation Laboratory of the Environmental Protection and Wood Chemistry Laboratory of the Łukasiewicz – ITD with the doctoral degree in exact and natural sciences in the discipline of chemical sciences.
The doctoral thesis was carried out at the Poznań University of Technology in cooperation with Danmarks Tekniske Universitet – DTU. The Discipline Council for Chemical Sciences recognized the thesis as distinctive.
As part of the doctoral dissertation new soil toxicity coefficients were determined, which are used in the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) environmental tool. LCA describes the environmental impact of selected products in a holistic and quantitative manner. It takes into account all the stages of the life-cycle of a product, thousands of processes and chemicals, and several impact categories, thanks to which it can be utilized to find the most environmentally friendly solutions. LCA is used by companies with a global reach. The results obtained as part of the doctoral dissertation will allow for further development of this tool.
Congratulations and we wish you further success in scientific development!
