New formaldehyde emission regulations
Therefore, from January 1st, 2020, the German market will change the requirements for the testing and emission of formaldehyde from wood-based materials. According to the new regulation the permissible concentration of formaldehyde in the air of the test chamber may not exceed 0.1 ppm. The control and certification procedure focuses on the reference method according to EN 16516 or EN 717-1 (in parallel with the new method, but the compensation concentration in DIN EN 717-1 must be multiplied by a factor of 2). The certification program for wood-based panels is based on the initial correlation between the formaldehyde emission method used in the company laboratory (e.g. gas analysis, perforator) and the test chamber on at least five result pairs. Subsequent cyclic controls of formaldehyde emission from wood-based panels and furniture are carried out according to the test schedule agreed with the manufacturer.
New requirements include:
- coated and uncoated wood-based panels (chipboard, blockboard, plywood, fiberboard),
