Wood Technology Institute in the Łukasiewicz Research Network
For business, science, and Polish economy
Łukasiewicz Research Network is being created
April 1st, 2019, Łukasiewicz, the third largest research network in Europe, was launched. Soon, using the achievements of 38 research institutes, Łukasiewicz will present a comprehensive offer for entrepreneurs. The network will be available to startup companies, small and medium enterprises, as well as large corporations and market leaders. The new entity, concentrating the potential of national research institutes, already at the start has access to several hundred laboratories and world-class researchers.
"Many companies, in particular small and medium enterprises, are not aware of the availability and the benefits of an enormous know-how of Polish science. Łukasiewicz Research Network aims to fill this gap in the knowledge transfer. Polish market participants, both commercial and non-commercial, will have access to the research facilities to develop their own ideas and products. From 1st April, the companies will be able to use laboratories, obtain research results, purchase licenses and order analyses or designs of advanced equipment. The network will release a huge potential of the scientific achievements of Polish laboratories to support specific commercial and business applications in a series of commercial programmes" - says Piotr Dardziński, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the government’s plenipotentiary for research institute reform.
As a business project, Łukasiewicz will break a stereotype of the research institutes as inaccessible to the entrepreneurs and as a closed scientific environment.
"We want to be a friendly and readily-available bridge between business and science. We can provide businesses with the research results, intellectual property rights and lease our research facilities and personnel for testing their own ideas under laboratory and pilot plant conditions. We want to become a helpful and understanding business partner for companies that need a push in the right direction to further develop their offer" - says Piotr Dardziński.
Łukasiewicz has at its disposal the most advanced research facilities worth billions of zlotys, out of reach to most companies and scientific staff unavailable to the majority of Polish companies. Łukasiewicz Research Network is open to cooperation with companies that need immediate results and for which investing in their own research centres is impractical and unprofitable.
Łukasiewicz Centre will develop and present a comprehensive offer of the 38 participating institutes. Our combined potential will allow us to undertake large projects for the development of economy and will facilitate international cooperation.
By supporting businesses and Polish research institutes, the network will contribute to the economic development of Poland, create new jobs and improve Poland’s prestige internationally. Polish universities will find a perfect partner for the “Implementation Doctorate” programme, and national institutes will gain access to the experts indispensable in implementing the country’s development policy.
Preliminary plans for the network will be presented on 21-22 May 2019 during the Impact19 congress in Kraków.
The Wood Technology Institute will be one of the 38 institutes participating in the Łukasiewicz Research Network.
Łukasiewicz Centre is a result of the research institute reform aiming “to improve the market potential of scientific, research and development studies conducted by the institutes and to increase the knowledge and technology transfer from the institutes to the companies. It is made possible by consolidating a scientific and strategic supervision over the operation of research institutes and linking those operations with the strategic interests of Poland.” Łukasiewicz Centre is part of the “Strategy for Responsible Development to the Year 2020 (with a perspective to the year 2030)”.
